Chandrabhaga Fair

Chandrabhaga Fair is held every year in Jhalarapatan 6 kms from Jhalawar in Rajasthan in the month of Kartik (October-November). River Chandrabhaga is considered holy by the people in Rajasthan and so on full moon day in the month of Kartik thousands of devotees take a holy dip in this river.

Rituals and celebrations
To mark this occasion, a large cattle fair is held on the last day of Kartik which also attracts thousands of pilgrims from all over India. The cattle fair which merges religion with commerce is held here and livestock like buffaloes, cows, camels, horses and bullock are brought in this place. Traders from distant areas like Maharasthra and Madhya Pradesh gather here and take part in the trading of these animals.
The fair also attracts tourists who get an opportunity to interact with the locals and familiarize themselves with their rituals and customs.
 

Chandrabhaga Fair is cattle fair which attracts thousands of traders even from neighboring states, such as, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The fair takes place annually in the month of Karthik (Hindu calendar). According to the Gregorian calendar the fair is organized in the month of either October or November.
Taking a dip in the water of the Chandrabhaga River is considered sacred on the night of the full moon during the fair. Chandrabhaga Fair in Rajasthan will allow the travelers to acquaint themselves with the people of the Hadoti region, their cultural ceremonies and traditions.

Chandrabhaga Fair, Rajasthan During this fair swarm of devotees take part in the fair. It is held in Jhalrapatan in the Jhalawar region. Prayers are also offered in the holy shrines of the region. Numerous cattle are brought to the fairground for trading. The livestock comprise of camels, bullocks, cows, buffaloes and horses.
These animals are dressed in multicoloured attires and accessories so that they can catch the attention of the buyers. The health of the cattle is also instrumental in deciding the exact price of the animals. While some of the animals bought here will be used in the agricultural fields the others will be used as beast of burdens, sports and in the households.
